Bufin

About Bufin

Bufin is an independent personal-budgeting web app, made in Canada, free to use, and built so that your financial data stays in storage you own rather than in a company's database.

Who builds it

One developer, working on it alongside everything else. That's the honest scale of the project, and it's why Bufin is still labelled beta in places: features arrive when they're ready, bugs get fixed by the person who wrote them, and the roadmap is public and voted on by the people using it.

Why it works this way

Budgeting apps ask for the most sensitive record most people have: where their money goes, week by week. The usual arrangement is that you hand that over and trust a company's promises about it. Bufin's answer is to not hold it: the files go in your Drive, your OneDrive, or your browser, and there is no copy for anyone here to misuse, sell or lose.

How it's paid for

Voluntary donations, and clearly-marked referral links in the tools section. Nothing is sold, no data is sold, and there are no ads. A donation buys no features because there are no features to buy.

Getting in touch

There's a bug reporter inside the app, a public roadmap you can vote on and add to, and email addresses on every legal page: one for help, one for anything about data and privacy, one for everything else.
