Acceptable Use Policy, Bufin
Last updated 2026-08-18
Bufin is mostly a private tool: your budget lives in your own cloud and nobody else sees it. This policy covers the few places where you interact with others or with our shared systems: roadmap proposals and votes, reviews, bug reports, household budgets, shareable view links, and the display name and avatar shown in shared features. Keep it friendly and lawful and you'll never run into this page again.
1. Be decent
Don't post, submit, or share anything that is illegal, hateful, harassing, threatening, defamatory, sexually explicit, or that targets a person or group. Treat the maintainer and other users the way you'd want to be treated. Bufin is a small, good-faith project: bad behaviour ruins it for everyone.
2. Don't abuse shared features
Specifically, do not: (a) submit roadmap proposals that contain links, images, encoded data, spam, or profanity, our filters auto-reject these; (b) create duplicate or bulk proposals or votes; (c) impersonate another person or the maintainer; (d) use a household to surveil, harass, or coerce someone, or add people without their agreement; (e) put another person's private information into a shared household or a shareable link; (f) use a shareable view link to distribute prohibited content.
3. Don't attack the service
Do not attempt to break, overload, or misuse Bufin: no reverse-engineering or scraping, no circumventing security, capacity, or rate limits, no uploading malicious code, no automated bulk requests, and no probing other users' data. Legitimate security research is welcome, see our Security & Vulnerability Disclosure policy for how to do it safely.
4. Households are shared on purpose
Everything logged in a household budget is visible to every member of that household. That's the whole point. Don't put anything in a shared household that you wouldn't want the other members to see, and remember that owners can invite or remove members and change roles. If a household turns sour, any member can leave at any time.
5. Content you submit
You're responsible for what you submit, and you confirm you have the right to submit it. By posting to public surfaces (roadmap, reviews, public bug reports) you grant us the licence described in the Terms of Service to display and operate that content. We may remove, edit, merge, or decline any submission at any time, for any reason.
6. Reporting and enforcement
See something that breaks these rules? Email [email protected] or use the in-app bug report. We may remove content, limit features, suspend, or terminate accounts that violate this policy: with or without notice, depending on severity. Repeat or serious violations lead to a permanent ban. If you think we got it wrong, email us and we'll take a fair look.
