Accessibility Statement. Bufin

Last updated 2026-08-18

We want Bufin to be usable by as many people as possible, including people who rely on assistive technology. This statement describes where we are today, what we've built in, and how to reach us if something gets in your way.

1. Our goal

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as a practical target. Bufin is a small independent project and has not been through a formal third-party audit, so we describe our efforts honestly rather than claiming full conformance.

2. What we've built in

Bufin supports full keyboard navigation with visible focus states, uses semantic HTML and labels so screen readers can make sense of the interface, and is tested for colour contrast in both light and dark themes. It respects your system "reduce motion" setting: if you've turned that on, decorative animations are disabled automatically. In Settings you can adjust the base text size and choose a different font, turn on a privacy blur, and pick your own accent colour for better visual comfort.

3. Known limitations

Some parts are harder to make fully accessible, and we're honest about them: rich data visualizations (charts, the money-web, heatmaps) convey a lot visually and may be difficult with a screen reader, where possible, the same numbers are available as plain text or in the export. Some third-party sign-in screens (Google, Microsoft) are outside our control, as is the donation platform's own page. We're improving these over time.

4. Alternatives

If a feature is hard to use with your setup, you can export all of your data as a JSON or spreadsheet file from Settings and work with it in a tool that suits you. And if you need a specific number or action that you can't reach, email us: we'll help you get it directly.

5. Feedback: we want to hear it

Accessibility is never "done". If you hit a barrier, or you have a suggestion, please email [email protected] with what you were trying to do and the assistive technology or setting you use. We treat these reports as a priority and will do our best to find a fix or a workaround quickly.
